A 2-in-1 infrared thermometer gun combines non-contact surface scanning with an instant-read meat probe, giving cooks one tool for preheating a griddle or pizza stone and checking the internal temperature of steak, poultry, candy, frying oil or other suitable foods. The TempPro TempScan PLUS TP420 separates these two measurements so each cooking task uses the appropriate sensor.

The infrared mode spans -58°F to 1022°F with a 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio, adjustable emissivity and maximum, minimum and average scan values. The folding 304 stainless steel probe covers -58°F to 572°F and returns a listed reading in two to three seconds with ±1.8°F accuracy from 32°F to 212°F. A touch-activated backlight, magnet, hanging hole, Fahrenheit/Celsius switch and included batteries support everyday use. The infrared mode measures surfaces and is not intended for body temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I use the infrared sensor instead of the probe?

Use infrared mode for a surface such as a pan, pizza stone, grill or HVAC vent. Use the probe when internal food or liquid temperature is needed.

How quickly does the probe return a reading?

The TempPro TP420 probe is listed to return an internal reading in two to three seconds.

What does the 12:1 ratio mean for surface checks?

The 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio defines the measured surface area as distance increases, so aim at a target larger than the sensing spot.

Can the infrared mode measure a fever?

No. The infrared sensor measures object surfaces and is not designed for human body-temperature readings.
