A time-delay cartridge fuse allows normal motor starting current to pass while protecting compatible circuits from sustained overloads and short circuits. This Bussmann FRN-R-30 is a 30-amp, 250-volt Class RK5 dual-element fuse for motor control centers, panelboards, starters, machinery disconnects, pumps, air-conditioning equipment and other correctly designed circuits.

The current-limiting fuse is UL listed and CSA certified, measures 2 x 0.56 x 0.56 inches and uses a fiberglass tube with brass end caps. The delay is listed at a minimum of ten seconds at 500% rated current, while severe short-circuit conditions can open the dual element much faster. Replacement must match the equipment class, voltage, ampere rating and interrupting requirements. De-energize, verify and follow qualified electrical service procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What circuits use an FRN-R-30 fuse?

It is intended for compatible 30A 250V Class RK5 motor and branch circuits designed for a dual-element time-delay fuse.

Why does the fuse have a time delay?

The delay allows typical temporary motor-starting current while still opening during sustained overload or short-circuit conditions.

Can I replace it with any 30A cartridge fuse?

No. Fuse class voltage interrupting rating dimensions and equipment requirements must all match.

What should be done before replacement?

De-energize and verify the circuit and use qualified electrical service procedures and protective equipment.
